What is the best day to visit Rio Gastronomia?
There is no perfect date for everyone. The best day depends on what you want to enjoy.
If music is your priority
Choose based on the headline act: Marcelo D2 (September 24), Blitz (September 25), Samba Que Elas Querem (September 26), Bento Gil & Flor Gil (September 27), Silva (October 1), Ferrugem (October 2), Arlindinho (October 3) or Bloco da Favorita (October 4).
If your priority is trying several restaurants
Saturday and Sunday give you more time at the event, since the event opens at noon. This makes it easier to spread tastings throughout the day instead of cramming everything into a few hours.
If you want to combine sightseeing and the festival
Thursday or Friday work very well for travelers. You can visit an attraction in the area in the morning or early afternoon, then head to the Jockey around opening time, at 5 p.m.
If you are going with children
Saturdays and Sundays allow you to arrive earlier. On Sunday, October 4, the children’s group Fabulosos is scheduled to perform at 4 p.m. Children up to 10 years old do not need an admission ticket.
Rio Gastronomia tickets: where to buy them and what discounts are available
Official sales are handled by Ticketmaster Brasil. Since prices and ticket batches change, we recommend checking the current price directly through the official channel.
The options announced by the organizers include half-price tickets, solidarity tickets and benefits for certain groups. Among other conditions, Ticketmaster lists 20% off the Sesc Mesa Brasil solidarity ticket, 30% off for BB Elo customers, 30% off for Claro customers and 50% off for O Globo and Valor Econômico subscribers, subject to availability and specific rules.
Online purchases incur a convenience fee. There is also an official box office with no service fee at Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium, as well as a box office at the Jockey itself on event days.
The Ferris wheel costs extra
The Ferris wheel ticket is not included in the festival ticket and does not replace admission to Rio Gastronomia. The attraction opens with the event and closes before the overall event ends. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
What to eat at Rio Gastronomia
With dozens of restaurants operating at the same time, the challenge is not finding food; it is deciding where to spend your appetite and budget.
In 2026, participating establishments are offering the Prato Rio Gastronomia for R$ 30. If you want to try more than one place, this is the easiest way to turn your visit into a tasting tour.
If you are a party of two, one strategy is to avoid ordering two identical dishes at the start. Sharing a few portions lets you try different offerings and reduces the chance of leaving the first stand already full.
How much to budget for RG dishes
| Budget | Number of RG dishes at R$ 30 |
|---|---|
| R$ 60 | 2 dishes |
| R$ 90 | 3 dishes |
| R$ 120 | 4 dishes |
| R$ 150 | 5 dishes |
| R$ 180 | 6 dishes |
Drinks, items outside the RG dish offer and the admission ticket are not included in this calculation.
How to choose without feeling overwhelmed
Instead of focusing on one style, try to vary your choices: snack → fish or vegetables → meat/pasta → Rio-style flavor → dessert. The festival brings together pizza, meat, vegetarian, Japanese, boteco-style, confectionery and other offerings.
To keep exploring the city’s food scene after the festival, also see our guide to restaurants in Rio de Janeiro.
Patrimônios do Rio: the space changes every week
The Riotur brings a different establishment to each stage:
- September 24–27: Bar da Portuguesa.
- October 1–4: Bode Cheiroso.
Bar da Portuguesa serves options such as codfish fritters, crab soup, rice with shrimp and cod, codfish salad and shrimp pastries. Bode Cheiroso, meanwhile, is taking part with boteco-style dishes such as pork crackling, gizzards, dried beef fritters, ribs with rice and pork leg sandwiches.
For visitors who want to discover flavors connected to Rio’s history and boteco culture, this is a space worth keeping on your radar.
How to get to Rio Gastronomia 2026
The CET-Rio has set up a special operation for the festival dates and recommends prioritizing public transportation.
Metro
The Antero de Quental station, in Leblon, is identified by CET-Rio as the metro station closest to the Jockey Club. Signage will be placed in the area to guide visitors between the Jockey and the station.
If you are not familiar with the system, see our guide to using public transportation in Rio de Janeiro.
Bus
Since routes and itineraries may change, we do not recommend relying on a list published for previous editions. Check a mobility app on the day and use Jockey Club Brasileiro — Praça Santos Dumont, 31.
as your destination.
Is it worth driving? Driving your own car would not be our first practical recommendation for this event. CET-Rio reports that no dedicated parking areas will be created for Rio Gastronomia
and recommends using public transportation when arriving and leaving.
Uber or 99
Ride-hailing remains a possible option, especially for groups or anyone who is not near the metro. The most challenging point is likely to be leaving, when many people request cars at the same time. Follow the pickup points indicated by the app and the local operation’s instructions.
What could go wrong — and how to avoid it
| Mistake | How to avoid it |
|---|---|
| Driving and counting on event parking | There will be no dedicated area; plan your transportation in advance |
| Buying a ticket through an unofficial channel | Start with Ticketmaster |
| Assuming the Ferris wheel is included | The ticket is separate |
| Choosing the date based only on the show | Also check the restaurants, classes and Patrimônios do Rio |
| Using up your appetite at the first stand | Share dishes if you are with someone |
| Not planning your return trip | Decide on transportation before the show ends |
| Bringing a pet | The event is not pet-friendly |
Rio Gastronomia with children
The event is open to all ages, and children up to 10 years old do not need an admission ticket. There are family activities, a Ferris wheel and a children’s attraction on some dates. If you are bringing a child, arriving earlier on Saturday or Sunday may make it easier to organize your day.
What if it rains?
The organizers themselves warn that shows, the Ferris wheel and other activities may have their schedules changed or be canceled because of weather conditions. Check the schedule one last time before setting out.
Safety tips for a crowded event
At events with large crowds, prevention is the most useful approach: bring only what you need, stay alert with your phone in crowded areas, agree on a meeting point with your group and plan your return before the event ends.
If you are visiting from elsewhere, also see our guide to safety in Rio de Janeiro.
What to do near Rio Gastronomia
The Jockey is in an excellent area for planning a day out, between Gávea, Jardim Botânico, Lagoa and Leblon.
Thursday or Friday
Since the event opens at 5 p.m., a balanced combination would be: Jardim Botânico in the morning → light lunch → rest or Lagoa → Rio Gastronomia in the late afternoon.
Saturday or Sunday
Since the festival opens at noon, I would choose just one morning activity and leave most of the day for the event itself.
To organize your time in the area more effectively, use our day-by-day Rio de Janeiro itinerary and our exclusive Rio map.
An outing that pairs well with Rio Gastronomia
For travelers who have chosen a Thursday or Friday, an outing that fits the location is the tour of Jardim Botânico and Tijuca Forest. The activity lasts about four hours and can be done before heading to the Jockey.

Where to stay for Rio Gastronomia
If you are visiting from another state or country, I would not choose a hotel based solely on its distance from the Jockey. The ideal approach is to think about Rio Gastronomia plus the rest of your trip.
Leblon and Ipanema are especially convenient bases for the event. Copacabana has a wider range of hotels and remains well connected to Zona Sul, but it requires a longer journey to Gávea.
