Village Le Canton Teresópolis: our real-life experience at the most famous resort in the Serra (honeymoon, costs and what nobody tells you)
If you’re researching Village Le Canton in Teresópolis, you’ve probably seen photos that look like they’re from a movie: architecture reminiscent of European villas, mountains all around and a huge resort structure in the hills of Rio de Janeiro. The truth is that the place really does impress at first sight.
We went there in October 2024, on our honeymoon, with very high expectations – perhaps too high. The experience was good and the hotel has a great structure, especially for those traveling with children. But we also discovered a few things that almost no one talks about before booking: many activities are paid for separately, there’s a lot of walking around the resort and after a few days the food can get repetitive.
In this comprehensive guide, we’ll tell you about our real-life experience at Village Le Canton, with pros, cons, costs and practical tips to help you decide whether this resort in the Serra Fluminense is really worth your trip.
Quick summary – Is Village Le Canton worth it?
| Item | Objective information |
|---|---|
| Location | Teresópolis – Mountainous Region of RJ |
| Distance from the river | About 1h40 to 2h |
| Ideal profile | Families with children |
| Strong point | Large, themed structure |
| Point of attention | Many activities are paid for separately |
| Accessibility | Long commutes and lots of stairs |
| Our verdict | Good experience, but be prepared to spend more |
Village Le Canton is probably the best-known resort in Rio de Janeiro’s mountainous region. It appears on practically every list of places to stay in Região Serrana RJ and is always compared with farm hotels and resorts in the mountains.
We went on our honeymoon in October 2024. Expectations were very high. And that greatly influenced our perception.
Was it a good experience? Yes.
Did it exceed our expectations? Not quite.
And that’s exactly what you need to understand before you book.
Where is Village Le Canton
The resort is located in Teresópolis, in the Serra Fluminense, approximately 120 km from the capital. The main access is via the BR-116 highway (Rio-Teresópolis).
If you’re planning to explore the region, we recommend you read on:
The hotel is officially located at Rua Antônio Silva, 300 – Teresópolis.

First impressions: visual impact and structure

Village Le Canton is big. Very big.
It is divided into three main areas: Hotel Village, Hotel Fazenda and Magique (themed area).
The most instagrammable spot is the bowling alley at the top of the mountain, with architecture reminiscent of European villas. It really does feel like you’re in a stage set.
The landscapes are beautiful. Mountains all around, a mild climate and that typical mountain air.
But here comes the first important point:
The journeys are long.
There are lots of stairs and climbs. It’s not a flat resort. For those with reduced mobility, the elderly or strollers, this could be a factor.
Rooms – comfort and mountain style

We stayed at the Village Hotel. The room was comfortable, clean and functional.
- Comfortable bed
- Air conditioning
- Fridge
- Wi-Fi
- Large bathroom
Nothing luxurious, but adequate for the standard of the proposal.

Structure and leisure – what’s included and what’s not
Here’s the most important point of the post.
The resort is sold as a “complete structure”. And indeed it is large.
But many of the activities are paid for separately.
Included as normal:
- Heated swimming pools
- Children’s recreation
- Some common areas
- Main restaurant (according to contracted plan)
Paid separately (varies per package):
- Magique theme park
- Some internal attractions
- Specific activities
- Spa
- Drinks
This frustrated us a little, because we were expecting more activities included in the daily rate.
And here’s the most important tip: be prepared to spend more than you planned.
Gastronomy – good variety, but repetitive

The hotel has several themed restaurants with prices that are fair by resort standards.
That’s a positive point.
However, the restaurant included in the rate started to get repetitive after three days.
If you’re only staying for a weekend, you might not notice. But longer stays can get tiring.
If you like to explore gastronomy outside the hotel, it’s worth combining it with an itinerary around the region, as we showed you in our Guide to the Mountain Region.
Ideal profile for Village Le Canton
In our opinion:
- Excellent for children
- Good for family vacations
- Ok for couples
- Not ideal for those looking for refined luxury

When to go to Village Le Canton

The resort is open all year round, but the experience changes greatly depending on the season.
| Period | What the experience is like |
|---|---|
| School vacations | Full hotel, intense recreation, higher prices |
| Long holidays | High occupancy and more queues at attractions |
| October to March | Warmer weather, swimming pools put to good use |
| Winter (June/July) | Romantic atmosphere, but less used pools |
We went in October and the weather was pleasant. We didn’t find the hotel crowded, which helped a lot.
If you plan to travel on public holidays, we also recommend checking the calendar at Holidays 2026 in Rio de Janeiro to avoid surprises.
How much does it cost to stay at Village Le Canton

Prices vary greatly according to room category and season.
| Type of expenditure | Estimated average value |
|---|---|
| Daily rate for couples (low season) | R$ 750 to R$ 1,100 |
| Daily family rate | R$ 1,200 to R$ 2,000 |
| Extra activities | R$ 30 to R$ 150 per person |
| Internal consumption (extras) | Variable |
⚠ Here’s the key point: the final cost of the trip is rarely just the daily rate.
Between the theme park, drinks, activities and extras, the cost mounts up quickly.

Honest comparison with honeymoon expectations

As we were on our honeymoon, our expectations were very high.
We were expecting something closer to an all-inclusive resort.
And here’s the difference:
Village Le Canton is a structured resort, but it’s not a traditional all-inclusive.
For couples looking for an exclusive romantic experience, perhaps other options in the Serra or even in destinations such as Petrópolis might appeal more.
For families with children, it works much better.
Is Village Le Canton worth it?
Yes, it’s worth it if:
- You travel with children
- You want entertainment inside the hotel
- Looking for security and structure
- Not bothered by extra expenses
It may not be worth as much if:
- You’re looking for refined luxury
- Has reduced mobility
- Expect everything included in the daily rate
- Want more exclusive experiences
Overall, our experience was good. But with more adjusted expectations, it would have been even better.
Common mistakes when booking Village Le Canton

- Not checking exactly what is included in the rate
- Don’t budget for extras
- Go on a holiday thinking it will be empty
- Ignore internal displacements and stairs
- Going too many days without planning outside activities
In fact, we always recommend reviewing our Travel Planning guide before booking any resort.
