Village Le Canton Teresópolis: Our real experience at the Serra’s most famous resort (honeymoon, costs and what no one tells you)
If you are researching the , you probably have seen photos that look like a movie set: architecture that resembles European villages, mountains all around and a huge resort complex in the Serra do Rio de Janeiro. The truth is that the place truly impresses at first sight.
We went there in October 2024, on our honeymoon, with very high expectations — perhaps even too high. The experience was good and the hotel has a huge setup, especially for those traveling with children. But we also discovered a few things that almost no one mentions before booking: many activities are charged separately, getting around inside the resort is lengthy, and after a few days the food can become repetitive.
In this complete guide, we will share our real experience at Village Le Canton, with pros, cons, costs and practical tips to help you decide if this Serra Fluminense resort is really worth it for your trip.

The is probably the best-known resort in the Serra Region of Rio de Janeiro. It appears in almost every accommodation list in the Região Serrana RJ and is always compared with fazenda hotels and mountain resorts.
We went on our honeymoon in October 2024. The expectation was very high. And that greatly influenced our perception.
Was it a good experience? Yes.
Did it exceed our expectations? Not exactly.
And that is exactly what you need to understand before booking.
Where is Village Le Canton located
The resort is located in Teresópolis, in the Serra Fluminense, about 120 km from the capital. The main access is via BR-116 (Rio–Teresópolis).

First impressions: visual impact and structure

Village Le Canton is big. Very big.
It is divided into three main areas: Village Hotel, Fazenda Hotel and Magique (themed area).
The most Instagrammable spot is the bowling on top of the mountain, with architecture that resembles European villages. It really feels like you are in a staged scene.
The landscapes are beautiful. Mountains around, mild climate and that Serra air.
But here comes the first important point:
Getting around is long.
There are many stairs and climbs. It’s not a flat resort. For those with reduced mobility, seniors or baby strollers, this can be a relevant factor.
Rooms – comfort and Serrano style

We stayed at the Village Hotel. The room was comfortable, clean and functional.
- Comfortable bed
- Air conditioning
- Minibar
- Wi-Fi
- Spacious bathroom
Not luxurious, but adequate for the standard of the offering.

Facilities and leisure – what is included and what is not
Here is the most important point of the post.
The resort is marketed as a “full-structure” place. And indeed it is large.
But many of the activities are charged separately.
Usually included:
- Heated pools
- Children’s recreation
- Some common areas
- Main restaurant (as per contracted plan)
Paid separately (varies by package):
- Magique themed park
- Some internal attractions
- Specific activities
- Spa
- Drinks
This frustrated us a bit, because we expected more included activities with the daily rate.
And here goes the most important tip: be prepared to spend more than planned.
Gastronomy – good variety, but repetitive

The hotel has several themed restaurants with prices that are fair for a resort standard.
This is a positive point.
However, the restaurant included in the daily rate started to feel repetitive after 3 days.
If you stay for only a weekend, you may not notice. But longer stays can become tiring.
If you like exploring gastronomy outside the hotel, it’s worth combining with a regional itinerary, as we show in the Serra Region Guide.
Ideal profile for Village Le Canton
In our opinion:
- Excellent for kids
- Good for family holidays
- Ok for couples
- Not ideal for those seeking refined luxury

When to go to Village Le Canton

The resort operates all year, but the experience changes a lot with the season.
| Period | What the experience is like |
|---|---|
| School holidays | Hotel full, intense recreation, higher prices |
| Long holidays | High occupancy and more lines at attractions |
| October to March | Warmer climate, pools enjoyed |
| Winter (June/July) | Romantic climate, but pools less used |
We went in October and the weather was pleasant. We didn’t encounter a full hotel, which helped a lot.
If you plan to travel on holidays, we also recommend checking the calendar at Holidays 2026 in Rio de Janeiro to avoid surprises.
How much does it cost to stay at Village Le Canton

Prices vary a lot depending on room category and season.

|---|---|
| Couple daily rate (low season) | R$ 750 to R$ 1.100 |
| Family daily rate | R$ 1.200 to R$ 2.000 |
| Extra activities | R$ 30 to R$ 150 per person |
| In-house consumption (extras) | Variable |
⚠ Here is the key point: the final travel cost is rarely just the daily rate.
Between the theme park, drinks, activities and extras, spending climbs quickly.

Honest comparison with honeymoon expectations

Since we went on our honeymoon, our expectations were very high.
We expected something closer to an all-inclusive resort.
And here is the difference:
Village Le Canton is a structured resort, but it is not a traditional all-inclusive.
For couples seeking a unique romantic experience, perhaps other options in the Serra or destinations like Petrópolis might suit you better.
But for families with children, it works much better.
Is Village Le Canton worth it?
Yes, it is worth it if:
- You travel with children
- Want entertainment inside the hotel
- Seek safety and structure
- Don’t mind extra spending
May not be worth it if:
- You seek refined luxury
- Have reduced mobility
- Expect everything included in the daily rate
- Want more exclusive experiences
Overall, our experience was good. But with more realistic expectations, it could have been even better.
Common mistakes when booking Village Le Canton

- Don’t check exactly what is included in the daily rate
- Don’t budget for extras
- Go on a holiday thinking it will be empty
- Ignore internal transfers and stairs
- Stay many days without planning external activities
Also, we always recommend reviewing our Travel Planning guide before booking any resort.
