Camarada Camarão Rio Design Barra: Is it worth it? Feijoada, menu and our experience

Is Camarada Camarão Rio Design Barra worth it? Based on our experience, yes—especially if you like shrimp, seafood and generous dishes made for sharing. The highlight was the feijoada made with shrimp and white beans, served with rice and bacon farofa. But this guide goes beyond what was on our table: we have included the location, menu, happy hour, what to order, how much our visit cost, how many people the feijoada can serve and practical information to help you decide whether the restaurant fits into your plans.
Transparency: we visited at the invitation of Camarada Camarão. The opinions and impressions in this article reflect our actual experience. Prices, opening hours, promotions and menu items may change, so always check the official channels before you go.

Is Camarada Camarão Rio Design Barra worth it?
Worth it? Yes—for anyone who enjoys seafood, wants to try different shrimp dishes or is looking for a comfortable restaurant in Barra da Tijuca for lunch, dinner or sharing several dishes.
Skip it if: you do not like shrimp or seafood, are looking for a very cheap individual meal or want a small, quiet dining experience. Camarada Camarão is a casual restaurant with a broad menu and dishes that often encourage sharing.
What stood out most to us was the size of the portions. The Shrimp Feijoada was advertised for two people, but the two of us could not finish it. So, if you are also ordering starters and dessert, think carefully before ordering too much.

What is the atmosphere like at Camarada Camarão?
Camarada Camarão was founded in Recife in 2005 and, according to the chain, brings a concept combining references to Brazil’s northeastern coast with modern, rustic and regional décor. The brand is part of Grupo Drumattos, with shrimp as the menu’s main attraction.
At the Rio Design Barra location, we found a spacious dining room with the feel of a shopping-center restaurant, but with more carefully designed surroundings than a food court. It works equally well for a meal as a couple, with family or in a group.
The official website also says that the chain’s menu, developed by chef François Schmitt, includes dozens of shrimp recipes, as well as fish, lobster, octopus, meat, poultry, salads and burgers. You can learn more about the story on the O Camarada page.

What did we order at Camarada Camarão Rio Design Barra?
We had one clear goal: to try the Shrimp Feijoada. But since we were there, we also took the opportunity to try some starters and desserts.
Our order was:
- Crostini de Camarões;
- Praia do Paraíso;
- Feijoada de Camarões;
- Profiteroles;
- Cocada Pernambucana.
This lineup was enough to give us a good sense of the restaurant’s concept—and also made it clear how easy it is to order too much food when several dishes arrive at the table.
Crostini de Camarões
The Crostini de Camarões was one of the first starters to arrive. During our visit, it came on fine-herb toast topped with tomato concassé, grilled shrimp and basil pesto.
It is an interesting starter if you want to begin with something smaller and try shrimp without immediately ordering a heavier portion.

Praia do Paraíso
The other starter was Praia do Paraíso, one of the chain’s best-known menu items. The dish consists of shrimp marinated in draft beer, fried and sautéed with onion and garlic.
It is a more straightforward choice: plenty of shrimp, bold seasoning and a snack-style format that works very well for sharing.
If you want to try several things from the menu, our advice is to order one starter first and wait before ordering a second. This keeps the table from becoming crowded just before the main course arrives.
Shrimp Feijoada: the Saturday highlight
It was the reason we went to Camarada Camarão: the Shrimp Feijoada.
This combination is quite different from traditional feijoada. Instead of black beans taking center stage, the recipe uses white beans and shrimp. In the version we tried, there were about 200 g of shrimp in a broth made with garlic, onion, tomato and smoked paio sausage, served with white rice and bacon farofa.
The chain continues to promote Shrimp Feijoada as a Saturday attraction. In material published in August 2026, the dish once again appears with shrimp, white beans, seasoned broth, paio sausage and bacon, served with rice and bacon farofa.

What does it taste like?
What we liked most was that the shrimp was well seasoned and that the combination genuinely worked, rather than seeming like a simple swap of ingredients in traditional feijoada.
The rice was fluffy, the bacon farofa added texture and flavor, and the white-bean broth held the dish together beautifully. For us, it was the kind of combination where you try to get a little of everything in the same bite.
If you like shrimp and heartier dishes, this was the order that most justified the visit.
How much does the Shrimp Feijoada cost?
During our visit, the Shrimp Feijoada cost R$ 129.
Treat this amount as a reference from our experience, not as a permanent price. Camarada Camarão uses city-specific menus, and prices may change. Before leaving home, check the official Camarada Camarão menu and select Rio de Janeiro—RJ.
How many people does the Shrimp Feijoada serve?
When we visited, the restaurant indicated that the feijoada served two people. But here is a tip based on our experience: the two of us could not finish it.
For us, the portion could serve three people with moderate appetites, especially if the table also orders starters. Depending on the group and how many other dishes are ordered, it could serve even more.
Of course, hunger is not an exact science. But if you dislike wasting food, it is worth ordering gradually.

Desserts: Profiteroles and Cocada Pernambucana
After the starters and feijoada, we moved on to dessert. And yes, we were clearly pushing our eating capacity in the name of work.
Profiteroles
The Profiteroles arrived beautifully presented. The version we received combined profiteroles with ice cream, sauce, strawberries and almonds.
Visually, it is a dessert that immediately attracts attention. What we liked most was the balance: although it looked very sweet, it tasted more restrained than we expected.

Cocada Pernambucana
The Cocada Pernambucana was another dessert we tried. During our visit, the creamy coconut dessert arrived warm with ice cream, creating a temperature contrast that worked very well.
The coconut texture was pronounced and the portion was generous. Of the two desserts, this is the one that especially reflects the chain’s Pernambuco roots.
Hora Camarada: how does happy hour work?
If you are not planning to go on a Saturday for the feijoada, there is another good reason to check the time before choosing when to visit: Hora Camarada.
According to the official website, happy hour runs every day from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., including weekends and holidays. The chain advertises 50% off drinks, draft beers, caipifrutas and caipirinhas during this period, with exceptions listed in the terms, as well as special prices on snacks and starters.
Since promotions may change, check the official Hora Camarada page and the Rio de Janeiro menu on the day of your visit.
In our experience, this was one of the things that stood out most: the restaurant works equally well for lunch, dinner or a happy-hour stop.
What is the Camarada Camarão menu like?
Although the name makes it clear who the restaurant’s star is, the menu is not limited to shrimp. The chain itself presents options featuring fish, other seafood, meat, poultry, salads and burgers.
If you arrived at this guide specifically searching for Camarada Camarão menu and prices, our recommendation is not to rely on old screenshots or photos of menus from other cities. The official website asks you to choose a city first precisely because prices may vary.
Official menu: select Rio de Janeiro—RJ and check the current prices.
In addition to the main menu, the website currently separates options such as Must-Try Selection, Hora Camarada Food, Hora Camarada Drinks, desserts and the drinks menu.
Is Camarada Camarão suitable for couples, families or groups?
For couples: yes. That is how we visited. Just be mindful of how much you order, since several portions are quite generous.
For families: it also works well, especially because of the broad menu and shopping-center setting.
For groups: this may be where the sharing concept makes the most sense. With more people, you can order different starters and dishes without being limited to a single choice.
For tourists: it makes the most sense if you are staying in Barra, have plans in the area or want to experience a Brazilian seafood restaurant outside the more obvious Zona Sul circuit.

Our tips before you go
- If your goal is the Shrimp Feijoada, go on a Saturday and confirm availability with the location before leaving home.
- Do not order everything at once. Portions may be larger than they appear, especially when you order starters, a main course and dessert.
- Check the Rio de Janeiro menu. Prices and promotions vary by city and may be updated.
- If you want to save on drinks and snacks, check out Hora Camarada. The advertised official hours are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Our verdict
The Camarada Camarão Rio Design Barra delivered exactly the experience we wanted: shrimp as the star, generous portions and the chance to try everything from snacks to a very different dish such as Shrimp Feijoada.
Of everything that arrived at the table, the feijoada was the highlight. The well-seasoned broth, white beans, shrimp, bacon farofa and rice came together much better than the name alone might suggest.
Our main advice is simple: go hungry, but order gradually. There is a good chance you will find that the portion was larger than you expected.
