By car
From Porto Seguro, you need to take the ferry to Arraial d’Ajuda and continue about 70 km to Nova Caraíva. Part of the journey is on a dirt road.
Upon arrival, cars stay parked and the final access is by canoe crossing the Caraíva River.
Private transfer or tour
That was the option we chose on our trip. We left Porto Seguro airport with a private transfer, which made the journey much more comfortable.
Bus
Some regional companies run the route to Caraíva, but schedules are limited.

For drinks, the village’s bars serve tropical drinks made with local fruits, such as passion fruit, cajá and mango, perfect for enjoying the sunset.
Among the village’s best-known restaurants are Boteco do Pará, famous for seafood dishes and a relaxed riverside vibe; Cantinho da Duca, traditional in Bahian home cooking; and Culinária Central, which blends contemporary dishes with local ingredients. There are also several charming bars and restaurants scattered along the sandy streets and the village center.
Prices tend to vary depending on the type of restaurant and location. On average:
